Who this article is for: Business users deciding whether to send Employee Benefit Cards or Business Cards to their team
CleverCards offers two card types for businesses, Employee Benefit Cards and Business Cards. Both can be issued to anyone, anywhere, instantly, but they're built for different purposes.
Employee Benefit Cards
CleverCards Employee Benefit Cards are for sending a gift, reward or incentive to your team.
- Each card is loaded once and cannot be reloaded or unloaded afterwards.
- You cannot view the transactions an employee makes on their card, since it's intended for the employee's personal use.
- Employers can give up to €1,500 per employee per year tax-free in Ireland under the Small Benefit Exemption. See The Small Benefit Exemption and your CleverCard for full details.
Business Cards
Business Cards are for sending funds your team will spend on company business, with ongoing visibility and control.
- Cards can be reloaded and unloaded as needed.
- You can view the details of every transaction made on each card.
- You can restrict spending to approved categories and set limits for individuals and departments.
CleverCards Business Cards also simplify expense reporting.
Under the Enhanced Reporting Requirement, employers must normally report the date of birth, PPS number and Work ID of any employee reimbursed for a travel or subsistence expense through the Revenue Online Service (ROS). Where a Business Card is used to pay for the expense directly instead of reimbursing the employee, this reporting isn't required.
As a rule of thumb, use an Employee Benefit Card for a one-off gift or reward, and a Business Card for money your team will spend on company business that you want to track and control.
