The CleverCards proprietary mobile app provides customers with best-practice security for their cards. Access to the cards on the mobile app are secured with a multi-factor authentication login.
The cardholder must provide 2 levels of authentication in order to view their card details in the CleverCards mobile app:
- Their account PIN. This is a 4-digit PIN that the customer sets up when activating their card for the first time.
- Biometric details or One-Time-Passcode (OTP). Biometric details supported by the CleverCards mobile app include: Face ID on Apple iPhone, face and fingerprint ID on Android phones.
For customers who choose not to use biometric phone identification, they may login using a One-Time-Passcode (OTP) that is sent instantly to the cardholder in an SMS or WhatsApp message.
Additionally, spending with the digital cards is protected by best-practice mobile phone industry security.
To make contactless transactions in physical stores, the cardholder must first unlock their mobile phone, then tap; on iPhone, the cardholder unlocks via FaceID or Apple PIN, and on Android the cardholder unlocks via face ID, fingerprint or Android device PIN.
For online shopping, all card transactions are secured using 3D Secure, which is industry practice for card-not-present (CNP) transactions, and is required by the SCA mandate under PSD2.
