Who this article is for: CleverCards Cardholders with an active CleverCard who want to spend it
Where can I spend my CleverCard?
Your CleverCard can be used online and in store, subject to standard merchant restrictions. You can buy groceries, eat out, buy a coffee, pay for a train or taxi, book flights, order takeaways, or shop with online retailers.
Some transaction types are not supported. See Top-ups, transfers and cash: what your CleverCard can and cannot do.
Paying in store
Before you can pay in a physical shop, your CleverCard must be added to your phone's mobile wallet: Google Pay on Android or Apple Pay on iPhone.
To make a contactless payment in a shop, unlock your phone first, then tap it on the payment terminal.
Paying online
Select debit card as the payment method. Note that the payment screen looks different from one retailer to another.
Open the CleverCards App and tap Show details under your card to see your 16-digit card number, expiry date and CVV.
Enter the card details on the retailer's payment page.
CVV is the three-digit security code shown with your card details in the App. Retailers ask for it to confirm you have the card.
Before you complete the purchase, check that:
The card number matches the one in the App
The expiry date is correct
The cardholder name is correct
You have selected debit card as the payment method
You may be asked to confirm the payment with an extra security check. Please see 3DS and SCA verification for online payments.
Using more than one card for a single purchase
Online, most retailers only allow one payment card per transaction, so you cannot combine two CleverCards for a single online purchase.
In store, some retailers do accept split payments across more than one card. This is at the retailer's discretion, not something CleverCards controls.
